FIELD & FOREST

Some Frequently Asked Questions!

How can I view multiple posts on one page (blogroll)?

If you're not keen on clicking on the photos on the home page, feel free to click "Field and Forest" in the footer navigation of the site. You can then scroll through recipes and posts to your heart's content!

What is your diet like?

We don't box ourselves into a specific diet or food lifestyle, and we like it that way. We listen to what our stomachs and our bodies tell us they need and want, and we try to feed them as best as we can with the ingredients available to us. If you really want me to give us a label, I suppose "primarily vegetarian with a dash of occasional meat and a healthy serving of dessert" is most accurate.  I eat veggie burgers more frequently than I eat beef burgers, but that veggie burger is usually topped with bacon (true story, because it's delicious). While we do avoid heavily processed foods most of the time, we each have our soft spots. I will rarely pass up a box of Junior Mints (especially if they've been hanging out in the freezer), and it is dangerous to leave me alone around a container of ice cream.

What we do prioritize are organic and sustainably grown produce (from local sources whenever possible), sustainably sourced fish and humanely raised organic meats, and a varied diet with lots of different seasonal ingredients. We do this primarily because these are good choices for our planet and the places, animals, and people who feed us, but we also do it because these foods taste better (and are better for us) than everything else available.

How many cookbooks do you own?

Um. A lot. Chances are that any number I put here will have increased by the the time you read this, thanks to the Cookbook of the Month Club. I am in the ballpark of 150 cookbooks, and I have read each of them cover to cover (some of them multiple times). One of my childhood friends' mothers used to say "there's always money for books." This is a philosophy to which I am a die-hard subscriber, though I should probably expand that mindset to include bookcases soon for practical purposes. I always have a few cookbooks by my bed, and I usually stash a couple away in my suitcase and carry-in whenever I travel. I've even been backpacking with one, though there are better (and lighter) things one could bring backpacking!

Who is that bearded guy that pops up in a lot of your photos?

That is my main squeeze and resident recipe tester. He is also the primary bread baker and beer brewer in our household.

What kind of dog is Lucca?

Lucca is a huskador (half lab, half husky).

What camera do you use?

Most of my early photos were taken with my Nikon D40 and my iPhone. I switched to Canon a little while ago, and shoot with a 5D Mark iii, most frequently with a 50mm f/1.4 lens.

Can I copy one/some of your photos?

Glad you like my photos and thanks for asking! Check out the terms of this site for information about reposting and commercial/organizational use.

I have a question about a recipe; should I comment on the post or email you?
